Baywatch star Michael Newman has died after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2006, a source confirmed. He was 67 years old. Matt Felker, Newman's close friend and director of the Hulu documentary series After Baywatch: A Moment in the Sun, revealed that Newman died "surrounded by family and friends" on Sunday night, October 20, "from cardiac complications." "The last time I saw Mike, he was regaining consciousness. He looked at me and, in typical Mike fashion, said, 'Just in time,'" Felker told PEOPLE. The Los Angeles-born Newman rose to fame in the '90s as lifeguard Mike "Newmie" Newman on the long-running TV series, and was the only member of the hit cast to actually play a lifeguard.
He appeared in 150 episodes of the series, which aired from 1989 to 2001, more episodes than anyone other than David Hasselhoff. Newman was also a full-time firefighter and managed the fire department's schedule while the show was being filmed. When the series ended, he continued to work as a firefighter for 25 years until his retirement. Show More
